Midweek games can prove to be tricky for even some of the best teams in college baseball, but LSU looked to maintain their focus against a very game New Orleans Privateers team.
Redshirt Sophomore Jaden Noot would toe the rubber for the Tigers on Wednesday night, and after giving up a run in the top half of the first, the 6’4 right-hander would settle down and give LSU just the performance they were looking for.
A Tiger pitching staff that faced criticism for its free passes this past weekend would only walk two hitters and strike out nine in seven innings of play.
“He’s plenty good enough to help us,” Head Coach Jay Johnson said after Noot’s four complete innings. “He’s really starting to now.”
LSU would take the lead in the bottom of the second as Senior Josh Pearson would draw a bases loaded walk, and the LSU offense would lift off after that.
It would be more of the same from the LSU power bats, as Jared Jones, Ethan Frey and Cade Arrambide would all leave the yard and pour it on the Privateers.
“There are 15-16 guys who can contribute every day,” Jared Jones said postgame. “It lets me kind of relax and just compete.”
LSU would put the finishing touches on in the bottom of the seventh with Ethan Frey’s second home run of the game, capping off the 16th straight win for the Tigers by a score of 11-1.
The win Wednesday night gives LSU even more momentum as they head to Austin, Texas for a weekend set against the 8th ranked Longhorns. First pitch is Friday at 7 p.m. on the SEC Network.
