LSU Baseball Players Conner Ware and Daniel Dickinson spoke to the media Wednesday evening to discuss their role for their upcoming road series against the Texas Longhorns.
Ware, a junior left-handed pitcher, wanted to clarify how important it is for him to have a bigger “arsenal” for his pitching styles and know what pitches are working for him or not in a game, especially in an upcoming series like Texas. Additionally, he believes that as SEC play begins, getting more experience will help him in the long run.
“I think going down the stretch in the SEC, … I will be more of a help out of the bullpen than starting midweek,” Ware said. “I think kinda getting that experience out the bullpen and working out of there has helped me and I think will help me going forward into SEC play.”
Since the Tigers started SEC play, pitching is one of many factors that have helped them close out innings and games like Saturday’s win against Missouri. With a stacked bullpen, LSU may have what it takes to survive on the road in Austin.
Dickinson, the team’s star second-baseman, believes so, too. Not only is great pitching going to be a must-need for the Tigers this weekend, but also their abilities to hit the ball in play. Dickinson believes with plate-discipline, they can get the job done.
“It’s (hitting) is just about timing,” Dickinson said. “I think we work a lot in the cages and we prepare better than anyone in the country. The difference we have to make in the cages is timing.”
As LSU travels to Austin, they hope to continue their momentum from their series win against Missouri and Tuesday night’s game against UNO.
No. 2 LSU will face No.5 Texas on Friday at 7p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
