LSU Softball took on their first SEC matchup of the season against the University of Kentucky in a hard fought win. The Tigers took the win in all three games and showed true skill on both ends of the field.
With a total of 23 hits and 18 runs, the Tigers got their bats swinging early and it proved to be their greatest strength. Maci Bergeron, Danieca Coffey and Tori Edwards were the power hitters of the weekend with a total of 28 at bats and 12 hits.
Starting pitchers Sydney Berzon and Jayden Heavener also had a great outing this weekend. Berzon pitched a total of 15 innings throughout the weekend and had a total of 56 at bats and only 12 hits.
Heavener pitched a total of five innings with 21 at bats and only six hits. The Tigers were loaded on both ends, which gave them the upper hand throughout the weekend.
“They know we’ve got a big opponent here with Georgia,” Head Coach Beth Torina said. “I think all of the returners understand what kind of program they are.”
“Big swing game, they kind of put the fear into you when they swing the bat, so our pitching staff and our defense will have to be ready for that. We will be ready to out score them.”
The Tigers are currently 27-1 on a 12 game win streak and are preparing to take on the Bulldogs on Friday for another SEC series weekend at 5 p.m.
