LSU Women’s Basketball put on a statement performance in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament against San Diego State University.
Though, Aneesah Morrow and Flau’Jae Johnson were both coming back from late-season leg injuries, the team showed no signs of rust or downtime as they came into the game with firepower.
Flau’Jae scored the first points of the game with a deep three-pointer that was just the beginning as she would go on to rack up a team-high 22 points.
“I wanted to be the energy for the team.” Johnson stated. “When you don’t get a chance to play basketball, it really changes your perspective on coming out and giving it everything you got.”
While Flau’Jae was her usual self, this game was anything but ordinary for the team. Every single player on the LSU bench checked into Saturday’s night game.
“We have a talented team in that they don’t have to share the ball.” Coach Kim Mulkey stated. “…Everybody was excited, everybody was excited for eachother and when everybody gets to play and contribute they all go home feeling good.”
The exceptional team chemistry on Saturday showed not only in the game itself, but in record books aswell. The 103 points scored were the most points in prgram history in the NCAA tournament, surpassing LSU’s own 102 points scored in the 2023 National Championship against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
The Lady Tigers will be back in the PMAC for the last time on Monday, March 24th to take on the Florida State Seminoles at 5 p.m.
