Kim Mulkey made history once again in the PMAC, scoring the highest number of points in a first round game of the NCAA Tournament in team history. Mulkey rotated the Tigers in-and-out on Saturday allowing her players to get a feel for the tournament-style play.
“We had a lot of ball reversal, we shared the ball,” Mulkey said. “We also have a talented team in that they don’t have to share the ball sometimes, they can just take you off the dribble.”
Saturday night’s win against the San Diego State Aztecs showed what LSU is capable of when all the pieces come together. The Tigers’ bench contributed 45 points to the win and put on a defensive show with a total of 23 rebounds.
“I thought that, to change the subject a little bit, you know we missed eleven free-throws. Eleven free throws,” Mulkey said. “And then if you look at the number of layups we missed, we missed fifteen.”
Aneesah Morrow and Aalyah Del Rosario struggled at the free-throw line shooting 4-7 and 3-7 respectively.
“I think Nees is just hard on herself right now because she missed some shots she doesn’t normally miss,” Mulkey said.
Mulkey is aware of what it will take to compete against Ta’Niya Latson and Florida State, and is putting a spectacle on the team’s free-throw efficiency.
“We’re getting ready to play a very talented Florida State team, leading scorer in the country, we got our hands full,” Mulkey said.
The LSU Tigers take on the Seminoles on Monday at 5 p.m. in the PMAC for round two of the NCAA Tournament.
