The No. 10 LSU Tigers defeated San Diego State 103-48 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
From the start, the matchup was all LSU. Starting guard Flau’Jae Johnson opened the game with a made three-pointer that set the Tigers up for success.
Mikaylah Williams was perfect from behind the arc, shooting 3-3. While Johnson and Williams kept the crowd fired up, Morrow stayed physical for the Tigers and couldn’t end the game before earning another double-double.
With 12 out of 13 players seeing the court for the Tigers, rotation and consistency throughout the ball game was too much for the Aztecs to handle.
The Purple and Gold held San Diego State to three made three-pointers on Saturday night, as they continued to dominate on both sides of the ball.
Scoring 25 points from the Aztecs’ turnovers, the Tigers’ defensive scheme was on full display in the PMAC.
Adryana Quezada, the Aztecs’ leading scorer, was held to eight points.
The win ended with 22 points for Johnson, 13 points for Williams and a 12 point/12 rebound double-double for Morrow, but was cemented by the Tigers’ secondary who contributed 45 points to the historic win.
The Tigers will be returning to the PMAC for round two of the NCAA Tournament; this time, to face the nation’s leading scorer Ta’Niya Latson and the Florida State Seminoles.
Tip off is set for 5 p.m. with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line.
