Sports reporter Juliette Marino went “On Edge” by describing the top games of Men’s March Madness that made fans go on the edge of their seats.
To start off, the segment began with recapping one of the first upsets of the NCAA Tournament: No. 9 Baylor vs. No. 8 Mississippi State.
With two minutes to play, Mississippi State created a turnover and used it as an opportunity to drain a three-pointer to help them only be down by two points.
The Bulldogs would later respond with more firepower against the Bears by having forward Keshawn Murphy land a two-pointer in the paint; however, it wasn’t enough, and Baylor survives and upsets Mississippi State in the first round of the tournament.
Even though the Bears would make it past the first round, they would end up heading home after losing to No.1 Duke in an 89-66 loss.
Besides No. 9 Baylor, there is one team that has been the talk of the tournament so far in the men’s bracket: No. 10 Arkansas Razorbacks.
In the first round of play, the Razorbacks were able to upset No. 7 Kansas in a 79-72 win during the final two minutes of play.
Arkansas guard Johnell Davis would make a massive three-pointer within a minute and forty-three seconds left of the second half that would extend the Razorbacks lead by four. Despite the effort from the Jayhawks, Arkansas would cause an upset and shatter thousands of March Madness brackets within the first round.
Now, going into the round of thirty-two would be a bigger challenge for Arkansas as they would face No. 2 St. John’s; however, the Razorbacks would get the same outcome as last round by upsetting St. John’s in a 75-66 win.
With three minutes remaining, Arkansas’ Billy Richmond III would hit a two-pointer to make his team go up 68-64, and with the help of the freshman guard scoring 16 points, Arkansas moves onto the Sweet 16.
Head coach John Calipari and his team continue to turn heads for many fans around the nation and are looking to potentially upset No. 3 Texas Tech in the Sweet 16.
Besides the upsets from No.9 Baylor and No.10 Arkansas, No.6 BYU would be the most entertaining team of the week as they were able to upset No.3 Wisconsin 91-89.
The Cougars had too much offensive firepower in the first and majority of the second half for the Badgers to handle. However, it would take a late offensive run by Wisconsin that would make the game come down to the final seconds.
With six seconds left, Wisconsin guard John Tonje attempted a shot but with a great defensive rebound from BYU center Keba Keita, BYU would cause an upset that would leave Badger fans stunned.
With the win, BYU will advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2011.
Still, with all these games going on, it’s too hard to recap every single one of them, but for now that’s all there is for this installment of On Edge.
