This week is a time to appreciate some of the underrated heroes on campus that often go unseen. It’s custodian appreciation week and there’s one in particular who’s making an impact.
Shawn Brown, is a twenty one year old who is currently working as a custodian for LSU. He started the job in July and has enjoyed the journey.
Every morning, he takes a twenty minute walk to the LSU student union to make sure he’s on time for his morning shift at 6 a.m.
A normal day for Brown consists of him delivering custodial supplies to at least ten buildings on campus while attending to his other custodial duties.
Some building students and staff on campus might see him at is Peobody, Patrick F. Taylor and the childcare center. Sometimes he even has to take packages off campus.
After high school graduation Shawn Brown attended Southern University, however, he unenrolled due to personal reasons.
Ever since Shawn started working for LSU, he has made an impact on a lot of the staff and LSU has made a lasting impression as well.
“Honestly it’s been life changing like those eight months. When I first came, I was going through a life changing event in my life but being with LSU and at LSU it’s just like grown me and adapted with me,” Brown said.
Next semester, Brown has decided to enroll for LSU’s nursing program.
“Our staff is amazing, and I know my boss and anybody I work with, they’re top of the line,” Shawn Brown said.
