With the NFL draft a month away, 16 LSU football players showed off their skills in LSU’s annual pro day event to a variety of NFL scouts and other staff.
Offensive tackle Will Campbell was on the list of participating players, but he only came in to have his measurements taken. His arm length was a topic of discussion, as he measured in at 33 inches, which was longer than his measurement at the NFL combine. Campbell is widely considered to be picked in the first round, with many mock drafts having him as a top 10 selection.
The standout of the day was running back Josh Williams, who recorded a 42.5 inch vertical jump and a 4.45 40-yard dash. Of the 16 players on the pro day list, half were invited to the NFL combine. Notably, Williams was not one of them.
Another storyline of the day was the participation of wide receiver Kyren Lacy, who is still in the middle of the legal battle surrounding a fatal car crash that occurred back in December.
Garrett Nussmeier threw passes for the receiver drills and Lacy was able to grab all but one he was thrown. He jumped a 33.5 inch vertical and clocked in at 4.50 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
Garrett Dellinger’s bench press was another highlight of the day, with the offensive lineman lifting 225 pounds for 31 reps.
Tight end Mason Taylor also showed his strength to the scouts, lifting 28 reps of the bench press. He ran a 4.65 40-yard dash and spoke in the press conference afterward, with all his comments suggesting he would be a good locker-room player as well.
This year’s NFL draft begins on April 24 and will be held at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
