Coach Beth Torina took questions from the press on March 26th after the weekend series in Athens, Georgia against the SEC opponent Bulldogs, and their Tuesday road victory at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
“They did a good job. I think there are moments in the game we’d like to replay or some things that got a little sloppy,” Torina said. “But at the end of the day, big road win, and another against an in-state opponent. I think we are happy with the outcome.”
LSU sees more and more ranked matchups throughout the season, and they take on a loaded South Carolina Gamecock squad this weekend. Coach Beth Torina emphasizes what needs to happen to defeat the Gamecocks and also any other opponent they come across to.
“I think if we play our brand of LSU softball, we can play against anyone in the country,” Torina said. “I think if we play our best game, obviously they are a great opponent, who pitches well, and swings well, so we will have our work cut out for us as we do in every week in the SEC.”
As the midway point of the season approaches, Coach Torina evaluates the team’s performance up to this point and assesses what the team has done better week in and week out and what other areas can still be worked upon.
“The team’s done a good job throughout the season, the things we make our standards, swing decisions, competitive plate appearances, being tough, stealing bases, running a hard 60, I think all of those have been good for the team, and I think that will continue being the standard.’
The Tigers’ next test is against the eleventh-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks, and the series begins on Friday at 5 pm at Tiger Park.
