LSU Beach Volleyball Head Coach Russell Brock spoke about his team after it came up short by losing 2-3 in a down to the wire matchup against No.1 UCLA.
Brock focused on how coming into the season, his team knew that they would face top opponents such as No. 11 Arizona State, No. 9 California, and now teams on their home court like No.4 USC and No.1 UCLA. With this being said, he expects nothing less of the Tigers and expressed how a tournament like this will help his team succeed in the long run.
“We play the best teams in the country because it gives us an opportunity to show how good we are,” Brock said. “I think with a win against USC and a tight matchup against UCLA, it showed that we are improving and we’re not quite where we want to be.”
“They’re (UCLA) the number one team in the country. We measure up well. We had a good competitive battle, but we’re not here to just compete… we’re here to win. It’s encouraging, but it’s also like we’re not satisfied.”
No.11 LSU will take on No.9 Long Beach State at 9:15 p.m CT, and on Sunday they will face No. 5 Stanford at 10:30 a.m. CT.
