Even a one-hour weather delay couldn’t stop the Lady Tigers from defending their home field as they beat South Carolina in the fifth inning during the first series of the weekend.
Third basemen Danieca Coffey (3-for-3), center field Jalia Lassiter (2-for-2) and first basemen Tori Edwards (3-for-3) led the Tigers offensively, finishing the game 11-3.
Head Coach Beth Torina said her team came prepared to play against each of South Carolina’s pitchers, as they rotated three girls onto the field.
LSU’s pitcher Syndey Berzon pitched four scoreless innings and only slipped up in the fifth inning as she gave up three runs on three hits.
LSU’s offense also drew a lot of walks, giving them an advantage and the momentum to carry out the game.
The night ended in the fifth inning with the mercy rule being called, but the Tigers will see the Gamecocks again Saturday night at 6 p.m. in Tiger Park.
