It was the latest start time in LSU Baseball history Saturday after inclement weather delayed the game by more than seven hours.
The 9:30 p.m. start time did not stop the LSU Tigers from defeating Mississippi State 17-8 to sweep the series.
LSU bats got off to a hot start with the Tigers scoring eight runs in the first inning.
Mississippi State answered with four runs in the second inning.
Chase Shores pitched four innings allowing five hits, throwing two balls, and striking out five batters.
Shores also took a batted ball to the face near his left eye in the fourth inning. He finished the inning with a swollen eye. Shores did not return after he completed the inning.
On the offensive side, Jared Jones helped start the first inning with a home run and three RBI’s while Chris Stanfield hit an RBI single in the first. Along with Derek Curiel, who hit two singles and an RBI in the first. Meanwhile, Luis Hernandez went 3-4 on the night with one RBI in the sixth inning and a home run in the eighth inning.
No. 8 LSU moves to 26-3 on the season and gets their second SEC sweep of the year. The team will now prepare to take on Louisiana Tech at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Alex Box Stadium.
