After inclement weather caused a postpone for LSU and South Carolina for Softball on Saturday, LSU and South Carolina would compete in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon that would be a shocker for the Tigers as they would go on to lose both games making this their first loss at tiger park this season and first series loss as well.
After the Tigers lost a close first game, the second game would start off the way the last game went with South Carolina scoring a run in the first inning by getting walked with bases loaded. South Carolina would end up scoring 4 runs total off LSU’s Jayden Heavener who would end up finishing the game with seven innings pitched, four earned runs, five hits, and ten strikeouts.
When asked about her performance Jayden says some mental and mechanical stuff need to be worked out but she is learning how to lose and learn from losing. “My performance personally I think it was just a bunch of mental and mechanical stuff,” Heavener said.
Coach Beth Torina said the team just did not have the momentum after coming out flat in the beginning of the game. “ Yeah we just didn’t have it today you know, we came out flat I thought, just didn’t have it at any point,” coach Torina said.
While the outcome wasn’t what the Tigers wanted, Utility player Savanna Bedwell says the team can learn from this to be ready in the postseason. “I think it was good for us adversity wise to handle things like this early on,” Bedwell said.
“So in the future when we go to the postseason that we know how to handle certain things like this so I think it was good for us,” Bedwell said.
The Tigers will try to look forward to their next SEC opponent as they will take on Alabama on Friday April 4th in tiger park while their next game is against McNeese on Tuesday April 1st.
