LSU women's basketball freshman forward Sa'Myah Smith (5) stands on the court on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023, during LSU's 79-76 win against Arkansas in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on N. Stadium Drive in Baton Rouge, La.
LSU women’s basketball’s Sa’Myah Smith will enter the transfer portal, according to On3’s Talia Goodman.
Smith’s entrance into the portal comes just 24 hours after LSU’s second consecutive Elite Eight exit from the NCAA tournament.
Smith was a redshirt sophomore forward who averaged 6.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game through 36 games this season.
Smith was matched up with UCLA’s Lauren Betts, a 6-foot-7-inch big, and was able to get her into foul trouble in Sunday’s Elite Eight matchup. She recorded a 20-point double-double against both Florida State and NC State earlier in the tournament.
LSU has now lost both of its starting front court players with Aneesah Morrow heading to the WNBA.
Smith was a top-100 player in her class out of high school. Smith attended DeSoto High School where she led them to back-to-back Texas Class 6A State Championships.
