On a brisk night in Thibodaux, LSU Baseball fell behind 3-0 to Nicholls State going into the seventh inning. That was when the rally started that ultimately led to a 5-3 Tiger victory.
Right-handed pitcher William Schmidt came out of the bullpen in relief of a tandem of LSU relievers. The right-hander threw four innings of shut-out ball with eight strikeouts.
“Honestly, everything was working for me tonight,” Schmidt said after his performance. “I was able to command the fastball, I landed the breaker for the first time in a while, it felt good.”
The pitching of Schmidt kept the Tigers in the game long enough for the offense to finally start cooking in the seventh.
A string of singles, the only type of hit the Tigers registered all game, helped put LSU in front. Chris Stanfield, Steven Milam and Jake Brown all had run-scoring hits on the way to the victory.
Ethan Frey had one of the hits during the rally, stating the team’s resilience played a massive part.
“We just started clicking at the right time,” Frey said of the team’s offensive attack. “Sometimes it just pops by itself, but we just gotta play baseball.”
The team will look to continue their eight game winning streak as they head to The Plains to face Auburn this weekend.
