Live from the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, LSU Gymnastics is on a quest to defend their national championship title.
Semifinal I began at 3:30 p.m. CST Thursday and featured four SEC teams–Alabama, Florida, Missouri and Oklahoma. Mizzouri and Oklahoma were the top two performing teams and will advance to the national championship on Saturday.
Semifinal II features LSU, Utah, Michigan State and UCLA, where the top two scoring teams will also advance to the national championship on Saturday.
The trip to Fort Worth marks senior all-arounders Aleah Finnegan and Haleigh Bryant’s last outing as LSU Tigers, and with the two of them earning almost every individual award in the book along with a national championship in 2024, it leaves the question of what the gymnasts want out of their last performance.
“I don’t think it’s going to be about a result,” Bryant said. “It’s not going to be about accomplishing another thing. Just going out there with the best teammates in my last competition ever and just enjoying it.”
Back in the Boot, LSU Baseball snagged a much needed 10-3 bounce-back victory over the McNeese State Cowboys Tuesday after Auburn swept them last weekend.
Jared Jones was the star on offense, going three for three with three RBI and a home run. The bullpen also shined with freshman right-hander Mavrick Rizzy throwing 2.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts.
This momentum is a much needed confidence boost. LSU will host the No. 21 Alabama Crimson Tide starting Thursday night. However, it is that kind of competition Head Coach Jay Johnson says makes his team better.
“It’s just the way that it is in our league,” Coach Johnson said. “It’s not like anywhere in college baseball. So you’re gonna get bloodied, I said that, you know, months before it happened, and we did. I think the response to it as far as our response to it in terms of things that the players and the staff can control has been great.”
