Although No. 10 LSU and No.8 Florida was supposed to be an all-around top SEC matchup, LSU Softball would suffer a devastating 14-4 loss against the Gators.
As the first inning remained scoreless, it was clear to fans that this game will come down to which team can get hot at bat.
With this being said, the Gators understood that message, as they would score at least one run every inning moving forward.
In the top of the second inning, Florida's 2B Mia Williams and DP Ava Brown would both deliver a solo home run deep into left field to help the Gators take the lead 2-0.
Despite a pitching change for the Tigers, the Gators would rack in six more runs to end the third inning, leading 8-0 over LSU.
By the fourth inning, LSU would pick up some momentum. CF Jaila Lassiter would hit a single into right field, allowing base-runner Jadyn Laneaux to run home to add a score for the Tigers. Suddenly, the LSU fans would come alive as 1B Tori Edwards would hit a three-run home run into left field to have LSU end the third inning with four runs.
However, the Gators kept on coming with their at bats. With C Jocelyn Erickson hitting a double to left field and Walsh hitting a single RBI, Florida would add to their lead, making it 10-4 midway through the fourth inning.
Not even halfway through the game, the Gators batting average was at .421 (8-19) while the Tigers were hitting .286 (4-14).
Florida’s batting would continue to impress. RF Taylor Shumaker and 3B Kenleigh Cahalan would help bring in three more runs by the end of the six inning, extending their lead to be 14-4.
The Gators (40-10, 11-7 SEC) came into the series with offensive momentum as they won two out of three games against No. 22 Alabama (33-18, 9-10). With well-rounded at bats from top to bottom, Florida was able to have multiple players on base by the third inning while LSU would struggle to find its way on base.
LSU hopes to capture a win after this loss as it faces Florida Sunday at 5:00 p.m. CT in Tiger Park.
