While the Tigers took down the Volunteers 12-2 on Sunday afternoon, they did struggle throughout the weekend series on offense. They beat Tennessee on Friday but lost to them Saturday, tying up the series.
But offense was not where the Tigers were lacking on Sunday with a total of 12 runs, 13 hits and 12 RBI’s when LSU stepped up to the mound they went with fierceness.
“We always think it’s going to be a good day on offense, and obviously the scoreboard showed it today,” Left-fielder Derek Curiel said.
Curiel made two runs, had four hits and five RBI’s along with the lead off home run that gave the Tigers the momentum and energy to finish off the game on a high note.
Freshman Casan Evans made his first ever starting appearance and pitched six innings, only allowing six hits, two runs and six strikeouts. He totaled 85 pitches and was pulled from the game solely because of his pitch count.
Evans spoke with Head Coach Jay Johnson prior to Saturday’s matchup about the potential of him starting Sunday, but nonetheless he was surprised to find out he was making his first start.
“I was pretty surprised he told me yesterday ‘If we don’t bring you out in the game today then we will bring you into the game tomorrow.’” Evans said.
The Tigers are gearing up for their next matchup against Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
