No. 10 LSU and No. 6 Florida faced head-to-head for the last game of their series in Tiger Park.
The Gators have one of the best offenses in the SEC but got dominated by the purple and gold. The Lady Tigers took the series 10-2 during an outstanding sixth inning.
LSU pitcher Jayden Heavener had a strong first inning, pitching two of her four total strikeouts while only playing for half of the game.
The Lady Tigers had a rough start with their offense in the bottom of the first inning against Pitcher Keagan Rothrock as third baseman Danieca Coffey struck out, center fielder Jalia Lassiter flied out and catcher Maci Bergeron grounded out.
Heavener didn’t pitch as well in the third inning, causing Florida’s shortstop Rylee Holtorf to score the first point of the game. Heaver had an era of 3.08 and was switched out with pitcher Sydney Berzon who had an era of 2.29.
The Lady Tigers caught up to the Gators in the bottom of the fourth inning. Second baseman Tori Edwards and pinch runner Madilyn Giglio both ran home.
The game stayed stuck at 2-2 until the sixth inning when the momentum swung in the Tigers’ favor and they capitalized on the Gator’s mistakes.
LSU scored eight runs on just three hits, six walks and a hit-by-pitch to enforce the mercy rule and win the series in the sixth inning.
Coffey, left field Jadyn Laneaux and shortstop Avery Hodge each had two rbi, and Edwards had two of LSU’s ten runs.
The Lady Tigers will face the No. 9 Arkansas Razorbacks in another series on Thursday, May 1 at 6 p.m.
