Have you ever felt that there is no cheap, healthy food around LSU’s campus?
Cava, a Mediterranean restaurant, located at 5295 Highland Road is open every day from 10:45 a.m. to 10:00 p.m, and it can give you just what you are looking for. Cava is a well-known fast food restaurant, on a much healthier scale, but what if I told you that there was a deal that college students should truly invest in: the Cava’s kids pita.
It may seem silly to ask for something off the kids menu; however, that’s where the best deals are. Different from a bowl and a regular pita, the kids pita is half of the regular size. You can pick one grain, one protein, one dip, two toppings and a dressing. It comes with 3 pita chips and a kids drink. You can also ask for extra toppings, but they may charge you.

I have found that when ordering the kids pita and taking it to-go, you can turn it into a makeshift bowl. Empty the choice of rice, saffron basmati or brown rice, into a bowl. Scrape out the protein and toppings from the pita. You have a choice of chicken, steak, harissa honey chicken, falafel spicy or braised lamb or roasted vegetables. As well as, adding two toppings: tomato and onion, cucumber, feta, fire roasted corn, salt-brined pickles, fiery broccoli, kalamata olives and so much more to choose from. Scoop out your dip of choice: crazy feta, hummus, tzatziki, etc. and get to tossing. Now you have a bowl, pita chips, a side pita and a drink.
If you are not able to make a bowl, the pita is wonderful by itself. Another hack is to ask for a side of hummus for your pita chips that it comes with. When filling up your cup, I suggest pouring the blueberry lavender as your refreshment.
You might not believe me when I tell you the price of this meal. Nearly half of a regular priced bowl at Cava, the kids pita runs for only $7.25. Now this is a meal that won’t make your pockets hurt. It is freshly made, filling and healthy.
