LSU Baseball Head Coach Jay Johnson spoke to the media after the Fighting Tigers had practice in Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.
This will be LSU’s fourth round against the SEC rival Arkansas, and LSU is 2-1 so far. Johnson said this team is not only built to be great in the SEC; it is built to be great in Omaha.
“I think it’s [CWS] much different than the SEC, but you can’t get here unless you have success in the SEC,” Johnson said.
Johnson talked about how this team is all about the different pieces that come together, and the players are very selfless throughout this process. They are willing to do whatever to win.
“This maybe not be as in your face, 156 homers as that team did.. but I think we have a lot of high end players that have done that selfless part,” Johnson said.
This is a relatively young team, which is rare in the transfer portal area, but Johnson would not have it any other way.
“We have seven freshmen, and seven on the 27 man roster,” Johnson said.
LSU will have one more practice on Friday, before they begin their journey in Omaha. Their first game is at 6 P.M. on ESPN against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
