Tiger Stadium reportedly has its next public address announcer.

WBRZ reported Tuesday that State Rep. Dixon McMakin would succeed Dan Borné, who announced his retirement in July.

McMakin serves the district that contains LSU for the Louisiana House of Representatives. He’s been one of the university’s biggest advocates in the Legislature.

McMakin will reportedly also serve as the P.A. announcer for men’s basketball games, which Borné also did.

McMakin annually emcees the Miss LSU beauty pageant.

He also was involved with LSU’s Student Government elections in the spring. He backed the Foret-Tatman: Forward ticket, which was disqualified and reinstated twice before eventually falling short to the Henderson-Layrisson ticket. McMakin reached out to LSU administrators on the ticket’s behalf asking for them to be reinstated.

Borne served as the P.A. announcer for 38 years and is said to have coined the iconic phrase “Chance of rain? Never.” He took a leave of absence during the 2024 season, during which Bill Franques, longtime P.A. announcer at baseball games and baseball communication director, filled in.

McMakin is an alumnus of LSU and LSU Law School.
