“The Runarounds” took over TV screens in early September 2025 with the launch of their show on Amazon Prime Video, directed by Outer Banks creator Jonas Pate.
The show follows a group of recent high school graduates—Charlie Cooper (William Lipton), Topher Park (Jeremy Yun), Neil Crosby (Axel Ellis), Bez Willis (Zendé Murdock), and Wyatt Wysong (Jesse Golliher)—as they try to make it big as a band while facing individual challenges along the way.
Viewers quickly fell in love with the youthful spirit of the show, the group’s chemistry, and, of course, the music.
The unique thing? The Runarounds are a real band, on a real tour. Before the show’s release, the group had already announced their “Minivan Tour,” which took them across the country and concluded its first leg in Baton Rouge with a sold-out performance at Chelsea’s Live.
Some fans may have first noticed the band during their cameo appearance in Season 3 of Outer Banks. However, the group had already been together for three years, working toward creating their own show when the timing was right.
“To see it all play out was super helpful for us and it was a necessary step, I think. Of course, it was a lot of fun to see how that team works. I mean, it’s pretty evident as to why they’ve been successful, and we got very lucky ending up being able to do our own thing too,” said Jeremy Yun.
For many of the members, aside from William Lipton, who starred in General Hospital—this was their first time stepping into an acting role.
“This was definitely a very different medium than what I was used to. I’m very grateful for my previous experience, but there was a lot of stuff that I had to learn as well,” Lipton said.
For the rest of the cast, an acting coach guided them throughout the process. Fortunately, some of their characters were written to resemble their real-life personalities, which made the transition easier.
“We’d all been in bands for most of our lives, so if there was anything we could try and act out, I guess it was band practice,” said Axel Ellis.
The band also wrote most of the music featured in the show, which they now perform on tour. Some songs, like “Shoelaces,” were inspired by real-life experiences.
“I wore a shoelace belt and all my friends did in high school, so we found something real to us that we could incorporate,” Ellis said.
Other songs even inspired the writing for certain episodes. At times, the group was given prompts to guide their songwriting.
“I think one of our prompts was to ‘follow your heart,’” Jesse Golliher said, which inspired the song “Arrhythmia.”
“There were so many different paths that we had to go down to fill out the season. I mean, our last song, Downtown, was written during the filming of the show—it was like two weeks before we shot the song,” Lipton added.
One thing that came naturally throughout this five-year journey was the brotherhood between the five bandmates. They say they’re just thankful to have had each other along the way.
“It’s such a unique experience for this project, everything about it. From start to finish, nothing’s normal, nothing like the way it is in other bands. Doing something like this on your own would be the most mind-boggling experience, and you’d completely lose yourself,” Murdock said.
Throughout the tour, they’ve had the chance to interact with both fans of the show and fans of their music, many of whom travel long distances to see them perform.
“They’re so excited to see us, and that’s just the biggest gift. We got very lucky; we have really amazing people coming to our concerts,” Lipton said.
“They are just as much a part of our story as we are,” Yun added.
While the band is taking a short break until 2026, they say this first leg has been nothing short of a dream and they’re grateful for the fans who showed up to support them and the opportunity to pursue their passion.
“It’s been a blast. I know I can speak for myself, but ever since I was a kid, it’s been a dream of mine to do a headlining tour. The fact that we’ve gotten to experience it at this level—and that there are this many people who want to come support is the biggest dream come true,” Lipton said.
Although Amazon Prime has not yet announced a second season, fans are hopeful the band will return to the screen soon. Until then, The Runarounds will hit the road again, touring from January through March 2026.
