LSU has named Verge Ausberry the full-time athletic director after serving as interim athletic director for four days, according to multiple reports.

The decision was reportedly made by new LSU President Wade Rousse, just hours after he was named university president.

Ausberry was given clearance last week by the LSU Board of Supervisors to lead the head coaching search as the interim athletic director. The search committee will include Ausberry, Rousse, Board of Supervisors athletic committee chairman John Carmouche, former LSU football player and donor Ben Bordelon and Our Lady of the Lakes President and CEO EJ Kuiper.

Board of Supervisors Chair Scott Ballard said a sixth member may be added.

Ausberry filled in for former AD Scott Woodward after he and LSU parted ways on Thursday night. Woodward started as the AD in 2019.

Ausberry has worked in the athletic department at LSU for 24 years, most recently serving as the executive deputy director of athletics and executive director of external relations for the university since July 2019.

Ausberry is a New Iberia, Louisiana, native who was a football standout at LSU and an LSU graduate.

A formal announcement on the decision is expected to be given in the coming days, The Advocate reported.

In 2020, Ausberry was implicated in the university’s Title IX scandal in athletics when he didn’t report a football player’s confession to domestic violence to the Title IX office or to law enforcement. As a result, he was later suspended and stepped down from the school’s presidential search committee at the time.
