After back-to-back shaky wins, LSU football looks to finish the regular season on a three-game win streak as it heads to Norman to take on the Oklahoma Sooners.
The newest members of the SEC have faced the Tigers four times in the past, and LSU has come out on top in the last three matchups. With the upper hand, LSU has its back against the wall as it travels to Norman.
Both teams have had outstanding defense this year and hot moments offensively, and LSU interim head coach Frank Wilson has taken note of this. Wilson said in his weekly press conference that playing to the Tigers’ strengths will be key in getting a win.
“I think we cater to the strength of our personnel and our team,” Wilson said. “We position our team to try to get points on the board, however that may be. It’s a tall task, but it’s something that we recognize that will have to come into fruition to allow us to have success in winning this game.”
In their last three matchups, LSU has outscored OU by a total of 62 points.
The most historic meeting between the two teams was the 2019 Peach Bowl. This season has become synonymous with LSU’s 2019 national championship team. The Tigers showcased one of the most daunting offenses in school history, but the Sooners were an even match.
Former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said that it was one of the best offenses he’d ever coached, and it showed in the 63-28 victory.
In 2025, the Tigers have shown a lack of offensive efficiency in recent weeks, but the defense has been second to none. The Sooners, on the other hand, have the No. 1 defense in the SEC but a slower offense.
Wilson may have to out-defend the Sooners in 2025. Both teams’ average points scored in a game this season are in the 20s, so it’s likely to be another low-scoring battle on the strategic front this Thanksgiving weekend.
“From a game plan standpoint, we’re in the primary stages of trying to figure that out — where does the opportunity lie, where we can create a touchdown for us,” Wilson said.
With the rollercoaster of the season LSU has had, the Sooners have become a bigger threat than assumed in the preseason. The battle of the defenses could lead to another low-scoring shootout, this time on the SEC front.
The story has been set, and only time will tell which defense will triumph.
To attempt to finish out the regular season riding a win streak, the Tigers will meet the Sooners in Norman on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 2:30 p.m.
