According to a report from ESPN, LSU football is expected to hire Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin as the leader of its program on Sunday.
The deal isn’t official, but the report said it’d be a “shock” if that isn’t the outcome.
On3 similarly reported Kiffin intends to take the job at LSU.
Kiffin is scheduled to speak with his team at 9 a.m. Sunday before formally announcing a decision.
Yahoo Sports has reported LSU is sending private planes to pick up Kiffin and others Sunday.
Kiffin is then expected to sign a deal that would pay him around one of the country’s leading salaries for seven years. An ESPN source said the annual salary may be around $12 million, while On3 reported it could be between $13 and 14 million.
Kiffin deliberated all through Saturday, the day he was expected to announce his decision as Ole Miss requested last week. He met with Ole Miss Athletic Director Keith Carter and Chancellor Glenn Boyce for about three hours Saturday, according to multiple reports.
Those discussions reportedly centered around Kiffin’s desire to continue coaching Ole Miss throughout the College Football Playoff — which the Rebels will likely be chosen for — despite making the move to LSU. Reports have indicated that it is unlikely Ole Miss would allow that.
This season was Ole Miss’ winningest in program regular season history, and the Rebels are poised as a legitimate national title contender.
Kiffin is also working to bring some Ole Miss offensive coaches and administrative staff with him to Baton Rouge, On3 said.
