LSU Gymnastics secured another win as they now sum up 17 in a row at the PMAC. Despite them winning by a large margin, the team struggled with consistency.
Friday Night. More than eleven thousand fans cheered for the No. 3 Tigers, who faced the No. 14 Nittany Lions.
It all started strong for LSU, as they had an impressive performance on vault, led by Kailin Chio’s 9.975.
Coach Jay Clark wasn’t excited about the performance of his team on the second and third rotations.
“Just kind of bland; it’s the best way I would describe it right now. The whole room was erratic, including us.”
One gymnast who shined tonight was junior Amari Drayton, who averaged a 9.9 competing in vault and beam and took the floor title with a 9.5. All after having a rocky start to the season.
“I’ve been working so hard on the gym; this has just made me feel a little bit more at peace. It happens a lot, so I just try to cool out and really calm myself down, and nights like this give me the confidence to move forward,” said Drayton.
Coach Clark had the opportunity to get some of the girls some extra repetitions with 7 exhibition routines through the meet; that will be crucial as he defines the lineups.
Although they had one of the highest scores in the country, the expectations are higher for this team, as they are looking to win everything this year.
“Hard to be disappointed with a 197.5, but at the same time I know and they know they are better than that, and we just have to make sure to continue to grow.”
The Tigers will continue to focus on having more consistent performances as they will host the Auburn Tigers on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
