LSU Gymnastics is back on track as they received the highest score of the year with a 198.325 against Auburn.
The Tigers were able to get their 18 consecutive victory in the PMAC and their second 10 of the season by no one other than Kailin Chio.
After scoring more than a 9.9 on Vault, Bars, and Beam, Sophomore superstar Kailin Chio ended the night with a bang, scoring her second 10 of the season and her first 10 on Floor.
She finished the night winning the All Around with a career high of 39.875, thanking her teammates for starting strong from beginning to end.
“The momentum from the Vault from Lexi starting to all the way through each event,” Chio said. “We just fed off the energy and I couldn’t have done it without this team and I’m just really grateful for them.”
The Tigers put on a show in front of 11,000 fans, sweeping Auburn in every event. After last week’s underwhelming win against Penn State, the Tigers put that behind them and completed their best routines, setting and matching multiple season highs.
The Tigers set a season high on Vault with a 49.550 paired with a season high of 9.950 from sophomore Kaliya Lincoln and a matching high of 9.975 from Chio.
They moved on to Bars where junior Konnor McClain shined, closing out the rotation and setting another high of 9.975, bringing their total score to a season high of 49.575.
“I was really proud,” McClain said. “I do Churros every day in the gym, so finally to do a churro to catch far away was nice to do. Just my teammates having my back and them on the side like they’re my best supporters. I literally love them and that bar routine, I do it for them every single time.”
Floor was the last rotation of the night as the Tigers had three back-to-back 9.925s. Junior Amari Drayton kept the momentum going, finishing off with a strong 9.950 before Chio got her perfect 10. Lincoln closed out the night finishing with a 9.975 in the anchor spot, ending the night with a total score of 49.775, matching the highest floor score in program history.
“We used to say around here ‘momentum is a dangerous drug,’” Head Coach Jay Clark said. “We caught it early and started fast. Their energy was good. You could hear it in what they were saying. You could see it in their body language. They were determined to finish this meet and they did it in grand fashion. Those routines were spectacular.”
The Tigers will look to carry that same energy as they go on the road to take on the No. 1-ranked Oklahoma Sooners Friday, Feb. 20 at 8 p.m.
