After losing four of its last five games in the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational, LSU came back into the Mardi Gras week hot at bat in its 10-2 win over South Alabama Tuesday night.

The Tigers immediately started their dominant at bats early on in the bottom of the first inning, with sophomore right fielder Alix Franklin blasting the ball through the right side, allowing senior center fielder Jalia Lassitter to score and add the first run on the board.

Franklin’s hit was the spark the Tigers needed. After putting up two more runs heading into the third, Lassiter would create an offensive surge for LSU, hitting a ball straight into left field, allowing her and three other base-runners to score.

The senior captain helped lead the Tigers to score seven runs as well as Franklin’s triple late in the third, sending junior Maddox McKee and senior Sierra Daniel to score at home plate.

Not only was LSU’s offense showing a quick turnaround from its disappointing performance this weekend, but also its infield defense. The Tigers allowed zero errors against the Jaguars Tuesday night, with help from senior third-baseman Avery Hodge and junior shortstop Kylee Edwards creating multiple outings throughout the game.

South Alabama, meanwhile, struggled getting on base against LSU’s Tatum Clopton, ending the game with two runs. The Jaguars (7-4) snapped their two-game win streak at Tiger Park, unable to find answers against the Tigers on both sides of the field.

LSU (8-4) will look to take this offensive surge at bat heading into its Purple and Gold Challenge where it will start things off facing Michigan State, Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
