The undefeated LSU Tigers came into their Ash Wednesday matchup against Nicholls confident and ready to put runs on the board and they did, defeating Nicholls State 12-1.

The Tigers started off slow on defense, allowing three hits and one run in the first inning, which included a home run from Nicholls junior right fielder Nico Rijo-Berger.

The Tigers quickly answered in the bottom of the first, scoring 5 runs, which was highlighted by a grand slam from junior infielder Trent Carraway.

The winless Colonels may have gotten off to a hot start, but LSU’s hitting just seemed to be too much for them to handle. LSU had eight hits, nine RBIs, and 12 runs to capitalize on Nicholls’s subpar pitching.

LSU went through a total of five pitchers in eight innings. LSU’s numerous pitchers were able to allow only three hits and one run. They also recorded a total of nine strikeouts.

The matchup against Nicholls ended early with sophomore outfielder John Pearson crushing a three-run home run in the eighth inning to run-rule Nicholls.

With this win, LSU improves to 5-0 as they head to Jacksonville, Florida, to play in the Jax College Baseball Classic.

Their first matchup will be against Indiana on February 20th.
