LSU Baseball loses to Sacramento State 6-1 on Sunday night. With the loss, the Tigers drop their first series of the 2026 season.
Pitcher William Schmidt took the mound for LSU and threw 5.2 innings with eight strikeouts, three earned runs, and gave up four hits.
Junior Jake Brown hit a single in the first inning and that would be the Tigers’ only base hit until the fourth inning. The Tigers were held scoreless until the seventh inning.
This is the second straight game where the LSU offense was non-existent until near the end of the game.
In the third inning, Sacramento State would open up the scoring with two runs.
Orlando Cobarrubias singled up the middle, then Sam Harry doubled to left field to score Cobarrubias.
With a runner on second, Erick Dessens reaches first on a throwing error and Harry scores. Hornets lead 2-0.
In the sixth inning, Dessens singles to left field. Next at bat, Jakob Potnurak singles to right-center field and Dessesn moves to third. Then, Luis Pimental-Guerrero is hit by pitch to load the bases.
Jace Jeremiah walks and Dessens scored. Next, Michael Perrazo singled to left and both Pimental-Guerrero and Potnurak scored.
Hornets now lead 5-0.
In the eighth inning, Pimental-Guerrero walks and moves to second on a wild pitch. Jeremiah singles to right and Pimental Guerrero moves to third.
Perrazo grounds out to the pitcher and Pimental-Guerrero scores for the last run of the ball game.
The Tiger offense doesn’t show up again and they lose 6-1 to the 5-10 Hornets. The Tigers will look to show some life when they take on Creighton inside Alex Box Stadium on Tuesday, March 10 at 6:30 p.m. CT.
