LSU Athletics has had a very busy spring, with LSU Women’s Basketball and Gymnastics heading into the postseason, while LSU Baseball hopes to get a fresh start entering conference play.
College baseball’s reigning national champions lost to Louisiana at Lafayette, Northeastern, Vanderbilt and Sacramento State, all before conference play, sending the Tigers into the regular season unranked for the first time since 2024.
The team’s returners, like Jake Brown and Derek Curiel, will be an important part of LSU’s lineup, as they currently lead the team in batting average.
Coach Jay Johnson thinks the team came into the season with the wrong mindset. “This team was maybe a little underprepared for adversity because they didn’t have a whole lot last year.”
The Women’s Basketball Team will be inviting #15 Jacksonville into the PMAC this Friday for the first round of March Madness.
This will be Kim Mulkey’s 4th consecutive March Madness with the Tigers and they will be looking for their first national championship since 2023.
Flau’jae Johnson, Mikayla Williams and Jada Richard have been some of the team’s top performers all season long, but the whole roster will need to be on their A-game, as the winner will take on either #7 Texas Tech or #10 Villanova.
Kim Mulkey is confident in her roster, knowing that if one player isn’t having their best game, another might. “They have to play good. And the good thing is, we have that bench. One may have a good game and okay, the other one may not be, let me try somebody else.”
