No. 2 LSU Gymnastics is going to the NCAA Championship, as they finished second behind Florida with a final score of 197.4375. This is the fourth consecutive time under head coach Jay Clark.
The night began with competing on Vault, with sophomore Lexi Zeiss setting the tone with a 9.850. Junior Konner McClain hits a 9.825 coming off an arm/elbow injury from the NCAA Regional Finals. Sophomore Kaliya Lincoln and sophomore Kailin Chio hit nearly a perfect score with both a 9.9625.
LSU took the lead with a score of 49.4750 after the first rotation.
For the second rotation, moving to Bars, Zeiss starts, then with senior Ashley Cowan, both receiving 9.8375. Chio and freshman Haley Mustari keep the momentum going with both receiving a 9.800. McClain ends things with a bang, scoring a 9.9125.
LSU finishes the second rotation with a 98.6625, falling right behind Florida with a score of 98.900 at the halfway point.
The Tigers headed to Beam for the third rotation, where junior Kylie Coen starts the team off with a 9.7875, and Zeiss keeping a steady pace with a 9.7625. Junior Amari Drayton picks up the momentum with her 9.8625 score. McClain sticks the landing with a 9.950, and Chio finishes up the third rotation with a 9.8875.
LSU falls third heading into the fourth and final rotation with a score of 147.9125, with Florida still leading with a 148.125 and Georgia following close behind with a 147.9375.
Senior Emily Innes starts off Floor with a powerful routine of 9.8625. Drayton picks up the heat with a much-needed score of 9.9375. Kailin Chio sticks multiple perfect landings with a score of 9.9625. And Lincoln finishes the meet off strong with a 9.9125, pushing them back up to the top.
With LSU falling in third after the third rotation, the Tigers didn’t disappoint when it came to the fourth rotation, and with their high scores on floor, they pulled through, finishing second, with Florida coming in first.
LSU will move on to the NCAA Championship game on Saturday in hopes of getting a second national title.
