After a pair of recruits committed to LSU to cap off a busy official visit weekend on Sunday, the hits keep coming for LSU football to begin the workweek. The Tigers landed another two recruits on Monday, getting commitments from Markez Davis and Cade Cooper.
Davis is a three-star athlete from Opelousas, Louisiana, and is ranked by 247Sports as Louisiana’s 15th best recruit in the class of 2027. Coming off of a strong junior year, programs of all calibers from across the country began pushing for Davis in the spring. LSU hosted him for an official visit on May 29 after extending him an offer earlier that month.
Coming off of a visit with Houston last weekend, Davis made his decision to stay at home to continue his athletic career. He described LSU as his dream school while speaking with 247Sports.
“Every kid dreams of going to LSU. Nothing is bigger than LSU,” Davis said.
Labeled as an athlete, Davis played on both sides of the ball as a wide receiver and cornerback in high school. It appears that LSU will elect to utilize him as a defensive back, incorporating LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond in their efforts to recruit Davis.
The Tigers also landed the commitment of three-star wide receiver Cade Cooper on Monday. Cooper is ranked in the top 20 of wideouts in his home state of Pennsylvania and in the top 80 in his position nationally.
As one of the players in Baton Rouge last weekend for an official visit, Cooper had generated interest from several powerhouse schools, including Ole Miss, Notre Dame and Auburn. Cooper had taken a trip to Oxford, Mississippi, for an official visit with the Rebels to end May, but LSU’s push to start the month was enough to turn the tables and get a commitment.
Cooper was impressed by the style of play at LSU, historically a wide receiver-producing powerhouse with a current wide receiver corps that lives up to that lineage. While speaking about his decision with 247Sports, Cooper also noted that even with the large amount of talent at his position, he’s not worried about a logjam of talent holding his opportunities back.
“I think they spread the ball around enough where you could have two receivers pushing for 1,000 [yards] and another two pushing for 700 [yards],” Cooper said.
Monday’s recruits add on to a productive Sunday for LSU’s recruiting efforts where they landed two players, five-star edge rusher KJ Green and three-star running back Brennen Lacey. The commitments of Davis and Cooper make it four commitments to LSU in 24 hours.
