Sound Tribe Sector 9 or better known as STS9 is one of the leading jamtronica bands in the country. The instrumental quintet has released 11 albums and two remix albums since 1998. Originating in Atlanta, Ga. the group owns 1320 Records’ and is one of the top-grossing tour acts in the United States.
STS9 has a strong connection with the city of New Orleans when the group released their remix album “Peaceblaster: The New Orleans Make It Right Remixes.” All proceeds of the album went to the Make it Right Foundation that built a house in the lower 9th Ward of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
Tribe has had countless performances in New Orleans and most recently in 2012, the group played without laptops at an after Jazz Fest performance. The crowd went wild as they laid down hits from some of their earliest works. The show was at Mardi Gras World, which is the same location as BUKU music and arts festival.
What to expect: With two sets, Sound Tribe will burn down the house. Using laptops these guys will combine elements of jazz, funk, psychedelia and instrumental rock. “When the Dust Settles,” the groups 2011 album is expected to receive a lot of play.
