The only things that shined brighter than the golden trophies at the Oscars this past Sunday were the dresses on the red carpet. The top fashion trend of this year’s event was all about rocking metallics. From the main show to the after-parties, A-Listers like Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Naomi Watts, Halle Berry, and more opted for metallic colors such as gold, bronze, and silver.
Here are a few ways you can work the metallic look into your everyday wardrobe.
Tops:
The great thing about metallic embellishments is that you can be as conservative, or as extreme, as you want. Forever 21 has a fun selection of metallic tops, like the Spiked Metallic Sweater pictured, for only $32.80.
However, if you have more of a simplistic style, you may want to go for the ING Metallic-Collar Blouse at Dillards. The blouse has just enough metallic to make the top stand out, but not so much that it’s overwhelming to the eye. You can find the blouse at Dillards for $21.60.
Dresses:
Although the metallic designer gowns worn at the Oscars are something any girl would want in her closet, they’re not really the kind of dresses that a college student would wear during a girl’s night out. A more fitting option would be this Faux Leather Bodycon Dress at Forever 21. For just $12.99, you’ll be sure to stand out in this gold and bronze metallic dress that is sure to flaunt your figure as well.
Pants:
Not many people are brave enough to whip out the metallic pants, but they look great when worn right!
NOTE: Leggings are not pants! Many people make the mistake of wearing metallic leggings which are rarely (let me type it again: rarely!) flattering on anybody. So, be careful.
Like these Bullhead Black Metallic Coated Skinniest Jeans from PacSun, you can rock the pants with a darker pair of shoes that complement the metallic color.
Accessories:
Metallic accessories are an amazing way to turn a boring outfit into something fashionable. For example, you can pair a Metallic Fringe Scarf from Forever 21 ($8.80) with a plain white v-neck tee and either shorts or skinny jeans.
If you’re not into scarves, or the weather is too warm, can also throw on some jewelry like Urban Outfitters’ Geometric Arm Band ($20.00) or a gold Metal Neckalace from H&M ($12.95).
Happy shopping!
