Sophomore forward Johnny O’Bryant III became the first LSU player since Marcus Thornton and Tasmin Mitchell in 2009 to be named first-team All Southeastern Conference, the league announced Tuesday.
One of eight players selected to the first-team, O’Bryant led the Tigers in scoring with 13.8 points per game during the regular season while grabbing a team-high 8.8 rebounds.
The 6-foot-9 Cleveland, Miss. native fought through injury at the beginning of the season to rebound in SEC play, averaging 14.7 points and 9.4 rebounds in his team’s 18 conference games.
Also honored was LSU sophomore guard Anthony Hickey, who was named to the All-Defensive team, also a first for an LSU player since 2009.
Hickey sits atop the NCAA leaderboard in steals, finishing the season averaging 3.1 per game and with 83 total. If he keeps this pace, Hickey will become only the fifth player in SEC history to average 3.0 steals per season.
