This upcoming Easter Sunday is season three of HBO’s series “Game of Thrones.” The series is based on the “Song of Ice and Fire” book series by George R. R. Martin, and season three focuses on book three “A Storm of Swords.”
This is the longest novel in the series so far, covering over 1,000 pages. Unlike the other books and seasons, this season will be packed with tons of significant scenes for all the characters. I’m predicting pivotal moments in every episode.
This book finds four kings still fighting for the Iron throne. Breaking the big picture down, Daenerys is across the sea still seeking an army. She is spreading the news of her claim to the throne and her dragons everywhere she goes. She also meets new people — some she likes, some she kills.
Tyrion is trying to figure out his role in Kings Landing now that his father has come to take his place as the Hand. Some serious stuff goes down in Kings Landing during this book. Hardcore serious stuff. Tyrion finds himself newly married and charged with treason. He also faces betrayals from an unlikely person, and makes a decision concerning his father being a meanie to him.
Sansa finds herself stuck in Kings Landing. Even though Joffery is now engaged to Margery Tyrell (I love Natalie Dormer) the Lannister’s refuse to let her go. She schemes to try to find a way out and to get back to Winterfell, which comes from an unexpected person.
Catelynn Stark is still with Robb during the war. Robb actually gets married in this book rather than the second series. She lets Jamie Lannister go during this book, and makes Brienne go with him to take him safely back to Kings Landing. I’m only going to say one thing about the chapters from Catelynn’s perspective — I’m not emotionally prepared for The Red Wedding.
Jamie and Brienne’s chapters go hand in hand since they are with each other the whole book. They face some pretty intense stuff together. She faces rape and awful treatment from crazy outlaws, he loses something important to him. They grow closer to each other, and I don’t think they realize it. I want them together so bad it hurts a little.
Bran Stark is alive and well and splits from Osha and Ricken. He travels with two companions, who I don’t think are in the series. He is on his way past the wall to try to find some answers about his visions.
Last but not least, there’s Jon Snow. He gets hotter each season, and this book for him is steamy. I’m just saying he loses his v-card to a beautiful, fierce wilding woman. The same woman he was cuddling last season. His finds himself in a war against the wildings, and a surprising new title at the end of the book.
I’m warning everyone who hasn’t read the book and only watches the series that there are so many people who die in this book it’s insane. I’m not telling you who, but important people are taken out. Some I’m glad, other I might have cried over.
Don’t forget to READ this series, and tune in HBO on Sunday for season three.
