Student Government campaign filing came to a close Wednesday with two presidential and vice presidential tickets.
The presidential and vice presidential tickets are mass communication and psychology junior T Graham S. Howell and Kaitlin Torké, along with finance junior John Woodard and psychology and communication studies junior Taylor Park.
For both tickets, running for higher office in this election was not a new idea.
“Kaitlin and I decided late last year that this is something we really wanted to do,” Howell said.
“Taylor and I met through the LSU S.T.R.I.P.E.S. program,” Woodard said. “We feel that we work really well together and we both share a passion for LSU, and that’s why we decided last year to run for president and vice president.”
Both campaigns have particular reasons why they want to run in this presidential election, along with ideas of what they would like to change.
“We have seen the way that Student Government has been perceived by different communities and organizations on campus,” Howell said. “We just knew that things needed to change, and that’s why we’re running.”
Woodard said student leadership is especially needed given the financial state of the University.
“Students need a legitimate representative in Student Government,” he said.
Passive campaigning for SG’s election season will open at 7 a.m. on Feb. 18.
