Though Tropical Storm Karen placed the Gulf on high alert, tensions fell as the storm was downgraded to a tropical depression Saturday evening and dissolved into a cluster of thunderstorms by Sunday.
Last Thursday, Gov. Bobby Jindal declared a state of emergency urging residents to adopt a game plan for the storm.
The Associated Press reported about 80 people took refuge at a shelter in Plaquemines Parish on Saturday.
Although the severity of weather conditions have diminished, thunderstorms could produce 1 to 3 inches of rain in certain areas, according to the National Hurricane Center.
