Let’s get right to the news
1. Samsung reveals the Galaxy Round
Who is the largest phone manufacturer in the world, is completely unaware of what happens around it and doesn’t know the meaning of Lorde’s “Royals?“
The answer to all of the above is the Korean phone giant Samsung who, confirming weeklong rumors, announced the first phone with a deeply curved screen.
The curve travels vertically along the middle of the screen (a hot dog style, for those who remember middle school), giving it a sort of rocking baby cradle motion when it lies on a table.
An interesting feature of the Round is what’s being called “roll effect.” It lights up the screen and shows notifications whenever the phone is rolled to one side on a table — very similar to the Moto X’s notification feature.
It’s an interesting feature, but more of a gimmick than a system-seller.
As of now, the phone is only being released in Korea.
2. There’s an 18 carat gold-plated HTC One
Yes. For a reason that escapes me, HTC made five gold-plated HTC One phones to the public for the small, small price of £2,750 (around $4,400 U.S.).
Never mind the fact that 18-carat gold is an incredibly soft and malleable metal and is the opposite of an ideal phone material.
Engadget had a hands-on with the device, and noted the numerous scratched covering the back of the device after a few moments of handling.
It’s the definition of excess, rivaled only by the $8 million dinosaur bone iPad from 2011.
3. iPad event date — Oct. 22
AllThingsD is reporting the reveal date for the next version of the iPad is October 22.
They have very reliable sources inside Apple, and usually are spot-on with these kinds of predictions.
Expect to see an iPad refresh as well as some news about OS X Mavericks.
