Miley Cyrus’ first album in more than three years, “Bangerz,” is, in short, a sloppy attempt to reinvent Cyrus’ career and wash away her Disney façade forever. But with her fourth studio album, Cyrus mainly sounds like she’s screaming, “I’m an adult! I have sex! Deal with it!” Other than trying to shock listeners, the attention-seeking album tries too hard to blend pop and hip-hop, which hardly ever works. Most of the songs feature Cyrus rapping a series of buzzwords over experimental beats that sound a bit unfinished. The downbeat tracks “Wrecking Ball,” “My Darlin’” and “Someone Else” show her more mature side and save this album from being a total failure. But the overall album lacks focus; on the first track “Adore You” she’s professing her undying love, but by the last five tracks she’s whining about a bad breakup. To put it simply, this album is purely for die-hard fans of Cyrus; all others can steer clear, unless they’re looking for a good eye roll.
