My first semester working for The Daily Reveille I jumped into the freezing cold water that is staff writing head-first with an unforgettable experience.
Given all of the recent turmoil regarding Gov. Bobby Jindal’s budget cuts to Early Childhood Supports and Services and domestic violence prevention, I decided to take on this sensitive story.
Needless to say, every interview and conversation was a completely different and moving experience. It was incredible to listen to how these people have devoted their lives to helping others for the welfare of the community and the state.
Every conversation was moving and sad in a unique way, but it was still extremely rewarding to have these people speak with me.
This story not only taught me about working as a reporter but about the serious problems our state faces. Louisiana’s domestic violence prevention programs and Early Childhood Support and Services have one of the strongest and most compassionate staff.
I can only hope for the best for these vulnerable citizens and the people that work so closely with them.
