Jeanne Kenney listed as day-to-day
Junior guard Jeanne Kenney is a game-time decision for the Lady Tigers’ Thursday night matchup at No. 18 South Carolina due to the left shoulder injury that kept her out of the Mississippi State game on Sunday. Kenney practiced some on Tuesday but ended practice with an ice wrap on her shoulder.
“It’s day by day, but I’ll be okay,” Kenney said. “If you don’t see a bone, I’m okay.”
Caldwell wants players to understand LSU’s basketball history
Instead of their normal “quote of the day,” each current player now researches a former LSU player as an effort to understand the history and tradition of the women’s basketball program. Caldwell said this can benefit her team both on and off the court as well.
“If you know players and you know what they meant for the program, maybe you’ll feel a little more vested to playing a little harder on the defensive end and rebounding the basketball,” Caldwell said.
Coach Caldwell: “We Back Pat”
This week the Southeastern Conference acknowledges the “We Back Pat” initiative, which raises awareness for the Pat Summitt Foundation. Summitt, who won eight national championships as Tennessee’s coach, suffers from dementia. Caldwell spent 11 years working and playing under Summitt.
“She’s someone who has been courageous in every aspect in her life whether it has been a movement for the game of basketball, coming out publicly and talking about her personal battle with dementia,” Caldwell said.
Team following in Adrienne Webb’s footsteps
After senior guard Adrienne Webb’s decision to put up 400 shots outside of practice may have resulted in 28 points on 9-for-14 field goal shooting and 4-for-6 3-point shooting against Mississippi State, her teammates followed in her footsteps.
“We also have players who are getting in the gym a lot more to fill the confidence tank,” Caldwell said. “I think that will help us as well.”
