In case you weren’t aware, our fearless governor, Bobby Jindal, recently wrote an editorial in Politico in which he tries to explain to his fellow Republicans why the Democrats will inevitably lose power, paving the way for the indisputable truth that is conservatism.
Except, he’s got a weird way of saying that. It’s insulting to some and idiotic to even more. Here’s five issues The Daily Reveille’s Editorial Board had with the article:
1. He insults Republicans.
Bobby J starts off his editorial by reminding his party that they lost the election to President Barack Obama twice before telling Republicans to “get on with it.”
He goes on to say his party needs counseling, because “all these public professions of feelings and inadequacy” are “getting embarrassing.”
Hear that, Republicans? Stop having feelings. Bobby J says “suck it up.”
2. He insults liberals.
Here’s what Jindal thinks the left wants the government to do: Hire everyone, pay everyone, then explode.
He also thinks liberals believe the earth is flat, religion is stupid and rich people are evil “unless they are from Hollywood or are liberal Democrats.”
Jindal spends almost 150 words ranting about how wrong everything he thinks “the left” wants is, and yet, he doesn’t offer a definitive solution to these problems.
3. He insults Americans.
Jindal manages to piss off damn near everyone in the country in his article. Not only are liberals unrealistic and conservatives emotional, but the American people are idiots.
If you voted for Barack Obama, you’ve just yet to see the error of your ways. But don’t worry — “The American public waxes and wanes,” according to Jindal. “It will wax again soon enough.”
So, what? Suddenly the light will shine down and everyone will see the perfection that is conservatism?
4. His big suggestion is to wait.
Just wait. The current government’s politics are a fad that will pass as quickly as One Direction.
Bobby, if you’re reading this, One Direction is a boy ban— ah, never mind. It’s not important.
Anyway, Jindal suggests Republicans just wait until the American people turn on their government.
“At some point, the American public is going to revolt against the nanny state and the leftward march of this president,” he says.
While yes, the American people do change their minds from time to time, isn’t assuming they’re currently in the wrong kind of insulting?
5. He insults (and contradicts) himself.
At the Republican National Convention in January, Jindal told those in attendance that the GOP didn’t need to change its principles — just everything else.
“If you take nothing else away from what I say today, please understand this,” Jindal said. “We must not become the party of austerity. We must become the party of growth.”
And yet, now he’s suggesting just that. His conservative ideals are flawless, just wait for everyone to realize how right we are.
Don’t change, don’t adapt, don’t evolve — stay the same, and the world can just deal with it. That’s Jindal’s suggestion in his article.
Bobby, if there’s one thing everyone knows (thanks to Mitt Romney) it’s this — no one likes a flip-flopper, and stubbornness is the wrong way to go.
Neither conservatives nor liberals have everything right ,and there are several obvious problems with our country right now. But refusing to compromise — after you suggested the very same — is part of the reason we’re in this mess.
