The Daily Reveille spoke with Baton Rouge native and rap artist Lil Boosie for a brief Q&A. Boosie addressed the media for the first time since his release from prison during a press conference at the W Hotel in New Orleans on Monday.
The Daily Reveille: What was the first thing you ate when you were released?
Lil Boosie: Steak and mashed potatoes. It was great. The mashed potatoes were loaded.
TDR: What were your emotions when you saw your family?
LB: I used to dream about that day while in prison. My mom just hugged me and reminded me of all the people who supported me. The first thing I did when I got out was pick up my kids. It was a sweet feeling.
TDR: Do you feel that your support system has grown since your incarceration?
LB: It definately has. I’ve always connected with the people, but now I’m getting letters from fans in Europe and Australia. I think I’m an artist who gives people hope and motivation.
TDR: Did you believe that your music would have such a large effect on people?
LB: Not at all. I just wanted to get enough money to support my family. Now people have my name tattooed on them. These people really have love for me. I think what I’ll do is for every girl that has my name tattooed on them, they’ll get V.I.P. club service and a bottle of alcohol whenever I’m in town.
TDR: Have you ever thought about venturing into acting?
LB: I’m trying to make my way into Hollywood. I wrote my own life story movie. I’d like to get my acting career together along with my humanitarian efforts. I just want to help people and be successful at the same time.
TDR: Do you think there will be any other legal incidents in your career?
LB: I’m very business-minded right now. I’m a family man. I don’t smoke. I don’t drink. I can’t get in trouble if I don’t have anything to get in trouble for.
TDR: What can you tell us about the upcoming album?
LB: Jeezy and I did a few songs last night. I’m working hard right now. I’m looking for Justin Bieber so we can make a hit record. Everything I touch is a hit. I wrote a song for Mary J. Blige. Wayne and I are supposed to go to the studio soon. There’s a lot of work and no sleep. Money doesn’t sleep and neither do I.
TDR: You said that you wrote over 1,000 songs. How will you determine which songs to place on the album?
LB: I just have a feel for it. Once you do this for so long, you just kind of know which songs are album worthy and which are mixtape worthy. My production is amazing and the producers love working with me because they know that what’s coming is special.
TDR: What are you most excited about now that you have been released?
LB: I’m excited to get to the top and stay there. Also, I’m excited to take care of my kids. This is who I really do it for, my family. I want them to live the best life possible and I know I can make that happen. I want to create a situation where the next four generations of grandkids are taken care of.
