This year’s Groovin’ on the Grounds concert will see world famous headliner Weezer, along with higher costs and a new Festival of the Arts showcase.
The estimated budget of the event is around $230,000. Student Government budgeted about $40,000 from sponsorships and around $191,000 from student fees.
Chelsey Gonzales, director of programming, said the total cost of Groovin’ on the Grounds was cheaper last year at $185,000 because the artists were not as expensive.
“The price of Lupe [Fiasco] and Grace Potter together don’t even equal Weezer’s cost,” Gonzales said.
The new Festival of the Arts will have activities before the concert such as a student showcase. Gonzales said she wants to incorporate student talent to create an outlet for their artistic abilities. Gonzales said she wanted to choose a different music genre this year because the past genres were getting repetitive. Gonzales also decided to have only two acts for Groovin’ on the Grounds.
