Prom dress shopping can take hours and cause lots of stress, but not for the girls who attend the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired.
“Look, just because they can’t see doesn’t mean they can’t feel, doesn’t mean they don’t have dreams, doesn’t mean they don’t have personalities,” said LA State Police Colonel Michael Edmonson.
The Cinderella Project supports young women statewide to save their money for college by giving them a perfect prom dress free-of-charge, said Co-Founder Sarah Dupree.
“We desperately need dress donations from LSU students,” said Dupree.
LSVI student Rasheeta Williams said this event has given her the confidence to shine at prom.
“I have been going to prom for four years, and every year it’s a really great opportunity to come out and get dresses,” said Williams.
The giveaway this weekend is open to all high school girls in financial need of a prom dress.
“On Saturday, we have about 3,00 dresses for them to pick from because we would like for the girls to really get the perfect dress,” said Dupree.
Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. at the LA State Police Headquarters Cafeteria. Students must bring a high school ID and a female guardian over the age of 18.
If you’d like to donate a dress or volunteer for the event, you can go to cinderellaprojectla.org to find out how.
