Junior all-arounder Jessie Jordan of the No. 1 LSU gymnastics squad has been named Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Jordan’s performance last Friday against Missouri was a crucial part of LSU’s record-setting night in which the squad eclipsed the 198-point barrier for the first time in program history. LSU finished the night with 198.050 out of a possible 200, and Jordan’s career-high of 39.600 led the way.
Jordan’s efforts won her the meet’s all-around title, her third of the season. She scored a 9.925 on vault to share the title with seniors Kaleigh Dickson and Sarie Morrison. It was Jordan’s first vault title this season and second of her career. Jordan also tallied a 9.925 on floor, another career high, to go along with her scores from beam, 9.850, and bars, 9.900.
Jordan’s career night also increased her regional qualifying scores, making her one of the highest ranked gymnasts in the country. The Houston native is the No. 5 all-arounder in the country, with an RQS of 39.495. She is also No. 1 on balance beam and No. 16 on vault.
This is the second weekly award of Jordan’s career. She claimed SEC Co-Freshman of the Week in 2012 after winning the all-around at Georgia.
